about

At Love Lion headquarters, we’re excited to release an album by Oakland, California’s KIM. After this presidency, we all need to blow off a little steam. Six churning and fuzzy songs comprise Jessica Calvanico’s (formerly of Geffika) return to the Love Lion archives.

The artwork loosely ties together prominent figures (shout out to Hatchet-Face, Kim McGuire) with little to connect them other than their popularity and name. The collage is adorned with lipstick smudges and candles and the photos are held in reverence on an altar to, seemingly, the band and public figures alike. The physical manifestation of a crazed recluse with a twitter account.

The song “Nero” is a haunted hurricane of vocals and guitars about the last Roman Emperor who not only had his own Mother killed but took a husband named Pythagoras later in life. Not bad imagery and inspiration for a sludgy number that is his namesake.

The incantation “Nightmare” isn’t for the faint of heart and is marked by wails and screams to round out a record that was simmering and finally boils over. If you enjoy your music with a heavy dose of mythology, iconography, and popular culture analysis, KIM is for you.

Debut album from Oakland's KIM featuring shredders Jessica Calvanico (Geffika), Laura Nichols, and Brad Amorosino.

With Tim Dixon on bass.

Recorded in Richmond, California in 2018 by Ross Harris and mastered by Howie Weinberg.
